Early 2011 the Cuban government has decided to promote self employment in Cuba. In the past only a limited number of independent businesses and professions were already allowed in the country. A list of 178 allowed independent activities with the numbers of the authorized licenses was announced by the government to avoid a growing unemployment and social problems. Walking down the streets of Havana you can meet men with guitars playing Cuban musics, street vendors, taxi drivers, photographers, translators ready to serve the tourists and visitors - all of them have accepted the offer, trading their government jobs for self-employment and going on this new rocky road for them.
